Transonic flow focusing: stability analysis and jet diameter

We study numerically and experimentally the stability of transonic flow focusing used in serial femtosecond crystallography (SFX) to place complex biochemical species into beam focus. Both numerical experimental results indicate that minimum rate for steady jetting increases slightly with gas stagnation pressure. There is a remarkable agreement between limit predicted by global analysis obtained experimentally. Our simulations show interruption at critical caused growth perturbation constant phase shift. This result consistent observations, which both meniscus tip emitted jet collapse almost simultaneously limit. derive scaling law diameter as function liquid density/pressure from more than one hundred simulations. The provides accurate predictions within range values [0.549,10.9] μm analyzed this work.
